Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington return once again on Oscar night for awards commentary, Arthur insight, a live wedding, and the search for a missing Mark Proksch.
The Seventh Annual Live 'On Cinema' Oscar Special
Satanic Last Supper. The arch poisoner and his accomplice wife sitting on a throne of corpses at the head of their wretched wedding banquet: desperately trying to piece their lives back together as they and everyone around them succumbs both figuratively and literally to the throngs of oblivion. A grotesque pantomime of spectres and half-remembered ideals. The end of history heralded by a movie expert with a painted smile.
best one yet. on cinema goes Lynchian? also I added this page, no need to thank me.
This Oscar Special Has People In It
On Cinema was probably always going to pivot into full psychological horror at some point, but I didn’t expect it to pivot this suddenly or this hard. Far from the funniest Oscar special, but easily the riskiest, taking full advantage of the live storytelling format to the point where a static 15-minute take of almost nothing happening on screen becomes genuinely riveting drama. Five bags of popcorn and a spare set of batteries for a carbon monoxide detector.
GREGG SHUT UP HEY
HEY
SHUT UP
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT MARK,
WE UH, M,LUE,UH,RULU,LUH, [sigh] MALU,RUHLURUE GOT, HAS, GREGG.
GLU,GUL,LUHGRUE,LARUE HAS... UH... GREGG. HAS... MARK. LUE
made me laugh so fucking hard i had to transcribe it down to the syllables
This is what Francis Ford Coppola was talking about when he envisioned “live cinema”.
Didn’t watch one second of the ceremony and laughed harder at Gregg Turkington’s entrance than anything else in my entire life. Great night!
I’m furious, for years I’ve been a devout Greghead, defending all his actions to the legions of vitriolic Timheads with passion and pride, but after this catastrophe I simply cannot bring myself In good conscience to justify his behaviour and complete lack of professionalism any longer. Can he not see Tim is having the happiest day of his life? Yet he feels the need to interfere in matters that don’t involve him, he still feels the need to bring up the Electric sun 18 even after Tim was proven innocent. I hope to see him fired from the show or at the very least sentenced to a court hearing after these latest actions, it’s time to get him out of here and stop this nonsense!
"The Joker Strikes Again!"
Gasper Noé got in on The Oscar Special this year.
10 bags of popcorn and a Jack Nicholson joker for good measure.
Would recommend.
i think the best of all these specials, and i'm saying that as a gregghead! favorite very small moment is tim realizing his decision to take his fiance's surname means he's actually taking her ex-husbands surname, perfect joke execution.
The perfect appetizer for the 40th anniversary of Arthur (1981), starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli!
For a while I wasn't sure about this one being on the same level as the other specials, but that final 30 minutes or so is beyond belief. Axiom is a hero. Gregg Turkington needs to be jailed.
Following in Gregg's footsteps, I am placing my wife and child in a U-Haul trailer, then stuffing my van full of VHS tapes for a cross-country, mobile VFA road trip.
Their absolute best effort. The annulment, the wedding, TC JR leading up to the nearly 10 minute still shot thinking the series was over. I love it. What a joy.
I dunno when was the last time a piece of media genuinely left me speechless with my jaw on the floor, and this was the last thing I'd expect to do that.
It was surreal, hilarious, and horrifying. Plus a good companion to my gov homework (I didn't finish it cause of how oddly mesmerized I became of this)
I'm rating this six popcorns and I'll throw in a little plastic Universal Studios Oscar.
This is better than Babel, Fight club, The God father, and Parasite(I really need to log that one in soon lol) put together. While still managing to be more disturbing than Gummo, Salo, audition, and The Human Centipede combined. I actually never had seen The human Centipede but I think I can get the idea after watching this. Not sure if I can sleep anymore knowing that CG tom cruise exists. I questioned... if there was a god...why would he let me see such a thing... do you think god stays in the sky because.... hes scared of what he himself has created. Alright sorry lol. But no joke this movie is like actually kinda disturbing at some point. It's…
On Cinema is- not joking- one of the greatest comedy series ever created. Even separate from the entire On Cinema saga though this shit is operatic.
