Graham Green wrote some utterly brilliant novels, but they've proved notoriously difficult to adapt into equally brilliant movies. Only Brighton Rock, The Third Man and this come close to the brilliance right there on the page. It's only right that this distinctly personal tale (Greene's own affair with Lady Catherine Weston formed the basis of his fiction) translated so well to the big screen here by Neil Jordan, it's a fitting tribute to Greene himself.
