Величайший шоумен Земли, Muhteşem Şovmen, O Grande Showman, 위대한 쇼맨
a movie about a circus and the strangest concept was michelle williams smiling and being happy the entire time
the scene in the beginning where young hugh jackman gets away with stealing bread proves that this is an alternate timeline where jean valjean starts a circus instead of going to prison for 19 years, finding god, and becoming the mayor of a little french town
me: uh yeah so the film has a pretty weak script and uses extravagant musical numbers to cover up that the plot is pretty incoherent and also there’s at least 16 technical issues which is 16 too many for my pretentious ass
also me: LOOK OUT 👀👀 CAUSE HERE I COME 😩✨ AND I’M MARCHING 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️ TO THE BEAT I DRUM 😜🥁 I’M NOT SCARED 😎😤🚫 TO BE SEEN 😱👁 I MAKE NO APOLOGIES 😘👊🏼 THIS IS ME 😂💯
I watched this movie while drinking heavily and by the end it beat me into submission and I cheered when Zac Efron put on a hat.
the time is NOW that we stop with this heinous disrespect of zac efron. he appeals to all demographics! this thot has done 4 1/2 movie musicals, he singlehandedly dominated the comedy genre when he snot rocketed in mike & dave need wedding dates, he’s playing ted bundy soon (for the freaks), and he solved racism through song not once but twice! in both hairspray and this movie! he was also part of the “i am your mother!” snl sketch that is rumored to have inspired hereditary (2018). this man is an american treasure!
there's a quick moment in the trapeze love song where zendaya sits on top of zac sexfron in the cowgirl position and she was able to keep lip syncing like a professional whereas i, a lesser woman, would have fully melted in that scenario. and for that i believe she deserves an academy award
Ignore the vintage 20th Century Fox logo that appears on screen at the start of the film, “The Greatest Showman” is nothing if not a uniquely 21st century spectacle, a gaudy sonic boom of musical cinema that tries to sell you on the magic of the movies like it’s Black Friday at a store that’s going out of business. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to a joyfully insane experience that’s as subtle as a circus and twice as loud. Forget the multiplexes; this is a movie that feels like it was made to be screened on a Jumbotron in the middle of Times Square as a shimmering advertisement for its own existence.
Shamelessly familiar and profoundly alien in equal measure, “The…
this movie is really stupid if you think about it for more than 10 seconds but zac sexfron was in it AND they did that musical thing where they cut the music and everyone claps and sings the chorus and i love having fun
...sure, why not?
Let's get the bad out of the way first:
1) P.T. Barnum was a loathsome human being and the way the film celebrates and rewrites what he did is contemptible.
2) The story is pretty weak. There's nothing wrong with a simple story, but a lot of the developments here feel inorganic. The film aggressively pushes an Efron-Zendaya romance right off the bat, but it never really coalesces into anything compelling.
3) The last act in particular features a flurry of huge plot points that occur at a hilariously rapid pace and are thus utterly nonsensical in terms of logical, meaningful story progression and development.
With all that being said:
Occasionally films come along that are so…
The best songs in a musical from the past decade. It's only infuriating that the sound dynamics wasn't done better. This is most noticeable in the song From Now On that it's not even funny. Imagine having to grab the remote to readjust the volume several times throughout this movie. The problem isn't fixed either in the soundtrack album! It's a good thing A Million Dreams didn't suffer too much from this. When I saw this in a theater years ago and it started the story with that song, I knew I was in for something special. Needless to say, critics received it just the way the movie had shown them to be. Ten years from now, they might finally wake up when Disney allows this to show on Netflix and it gets to the top of the charts there just like Avatar did. Maybe by then we'll get a remastered version and an extended soundtrack too.
Ok obviously lots of people liked this movie and the music so if that’s you, go ahead, I usually think it’s better and healthier to like things than to dislike things.
With that out of the way, I cannot express how much of a missed opportunity this movie is for me. I’m well-known for being a huge sucker for an ensemble story where a bunch of misfits with different abilities work together and do something awesome, and also I love musicals to pieces so I really wanted to like this. However. Not to rip off Jenny Nicholson, but here is my own humble numbered list.
1. You barely get to know the circus performers, we don’t know any of their…
Very sweet story :)) Some of the songs were absolute bangers and I really enjoyed the choreography!
I'm aware that I'm seeing The Greatest Showman way after the fact and that the film is preceded by both its reputation as well as its songs being hammered into my head via Tiktok. I know that this film has already been picked apart to death, notably by Jenny Nicholson (whose video on this reflects a lot of my thoughts as well), but let me just throw in my additional two cents.
Pasek and Paul can write great musical theater songs. I've heard them. Say what you will about Dear Evan Hansen, but those songs ooze emotion and personality. Here it sounds like they've done it for a paycheck. Everything sounds so soulless, manufactured only for the hope of mainstream…
La película pasable pero vengo a advertiros para que no caigáis en el engaño del autocine. Además de incómodo y caro no es nada ecofriendly.
I absolutely adore this movie no matter how many times I watch it it’s still so much fun
It’s such a quick pasted movie it’s slightly over 100 minutes and it really doesn’t feel it at all
Every song in this movie is fantastic it’s been 3 years since I first saw this movie and I still listen to the music on a regular basis
I love the cast in this movie from Hugh Jackman who is indeed a song and dance man as well as Zac Efron which this is the movie that sold me on him outside of high school musical. Zendeyas character is a weird choice for her to play but he’s duet with zac efron is 😱
As a whole I love this movie and it never gets old
