GOODNIGHT MOMMY had some logic issues. THE LODGE *is* a logic issue.
the real shame with this spectacularly dumb but richly atmospheric horror movie is that the (incredibly, indescribably, unfathomably) stupid plot twists could have been somewhat believable if handled with even the tiniest bit of care. it just makes you want to scream in ADVERBS.
Riley Keough is good, tho. what else is new.
p.s. it's cute to show a clip from THE THING in your snowbound nightmare movie but like… are you sure you wanna set the bar that high?
“you have nothing to be scared about”
paralyzing and agonizing. i’ve been considering my rating all day, but i just realized there wasn’t a single second of this that i wasn’t completely at its mercy, staring helplessly at the theater exit sign and wishing i didn’t have to endure what came next. i haven’t felt this truly, achingly scared in a long time. what a glorious nightmare

If you show footage of The Thing in your latest ambiguous "psychological terror" picture that ultimately fails its characters and its premise, you better come prepared to deal with the consequences. This is both a lazy clash of influences and a try-hard horror movie that ignores much of its goodwill in favor of dissecting its cardboard cast of characters. Fucking lame.

Super dark, it really got to me, especially the opening and the end sequence. I want to rate this higher because on nearly every level this worked, except for the story. The kids making stuff up, whether real or not, totally killed this. The aftermath that followed was harrowing, but I couldn’t help but think there was nothing shown in these kids that would be nefarious enough to pull suck a rouse, nor was there anything so unhinged about Grace that she would’ve spiralled just because the Dad left for work. It totally unravels this decent which I found really gripping and mega frustrating that this one thing let it down.
im one of the people who liked this enough to watch it a second time because i like to have fun
slow in some parts but overall a cool idea. creepy as fuck but would not rly call it scary. that bitch rly made them kids orphans.
As always, fuck horror movie kids
The Lodge definitely had me on edge. The beginning of the movie fools you into thinking this ISNT. a slow burn but believe me. It fucking IS.
Everything being said, I didnt want to sleep by myself after. So it did its job
the film kinda lost me in the third act, i think i would’ve preferred it much more without the story twist towards the end, still a solid film though
