I quite liked the original Fritz the Cat, so I decided to give this lesser-known follow-up a spin. Sadly, Bakshi had moved onto other things, so Nine Lives is a pretty drab effort without his creative imput, that feels like a cash-in sequel in every way.
Several years later, Fritz is now a deadbeat loser stuck in some deadbeat apartment with his masturbation-addicted son and his obese wife, all while living on welfare. As his wife constantly (and rightfully) nags and berates him for his shiftless beheaviour, Fritz drifts off into his own little drug-fueled fantasy under the influence of a joint, imagining how much better his life could have been.
So while the original had something to say, this…
