can you believe that leo won his first oscar for grunting when THIS performance exists
Fucking Benihana.
Some initial rambling thoughts and notes for a future more coherent review:
-Jordan Belfort makes Calvin Candie look like a pleasant guy to be around.
-This film makes The Departed look like a Disney movie.
-"Two time Academy Award Nominee Jonah Hill"
-"That Rob Reiner guy should act more."
-Never thought I'd hear a Foo Fighters song in a Scorsese film, nevermind one that actually really fits.
-It'll be interesting to see how the mass public reacts to this film. During my free pre screening I would say about 15 people got up and left. Record for me is around 20 for Syriana, Zodiac, and The Tree of Life.
-It'll also be interesting to see mass groups of…
93/100
3 hours of undiluted, insane, balls-out, coked-out, swift, ludicrous, hysterical, wacky, berserk, horrifying, paralyzing, unnerving, savage, bloodthirsty, untamed CINEMA.
The icing on the cake? It was released to a general audience of unsuspecting Americans on Christmas Day. This just further proves my theory, no scratch that, bona-fide FACT, that Martin Scorsese is our true savior. Bow to him. Worship him. Follow him.
One of us, one of us, one of us......
it's called brand recognition and maybe if you had a fucking business that you were passionate about then you would know what it takes to run a fucking business but you DON’T
the most realistic thing about this movie is that leo dates a 22 year old
I can’t believe we all thought Leo was going to win his first Oscar in a movie where he blows cocaine into a hooker’s asshole
The Wolf of Wall Street is Martin Scorsese back to his confident best. At 71 he should be producing respectable work destined to please ageing Oscar voters (something perhaps like Hugo) but instead he’s making swaggering, debauched and sprawling epics about obscene levels of excess and one man’s fall from grace. This is Scorsese’s best work since Casino.
In three spritely and surprisingly brisk hours, Scorsese brings to life the true story of Jordan Belfort and his meteoric rise from penny stock huckster to Wall Street God. Belfort is Gordon Gekko turned up to eleven - a man powered by money and Quaaludes until the federal government brought him crashing to the ground. It’s a capitalist cautionary tale, albeit a…
intoxicating the audience with excess only to repulse them by the end.
One of the greatest and most misunderstood films of the 21st century.
Based on a true story, this film exposes and confirms all of the worst excesses of the corruption and vacuity of the world of Wall Street and trading
a final shot on par with The Irishman for how haunting it is. people lining up to hear the advice on how to be successful from the guy you just spent 3 hours wallowing in depravity with. just grim stuff, the fact anyone can watch this and think Scorsese feels anything less than total hatred for this guy is beyond me. somehow despite that the movie is a total blast from start to finish.
I love the rise and fall in the movie, I would totally scam people out of millions to live this life
Points deducted because long island is not wall street. Also it's really not that good of a movie beyond being pretty to look at and a few good performances. Scorcese has been better before and since.
there wasn’t even a boring BIT in those 3 hours....... i loved every second of it. also leo’s performance is phenomenal, i can’t believe his oscar got snatched 😫
(Watched a long time ago)
Yes this film is good, but it is ruined by frat boys idolising Jordan Belfort for all the wrong reasons.
This is meant to be satire mocking the audience, and given that the audience seem to love the characters for all the wrong reasons, I think Scorsese did a pretty good job in fulfilling the Satirical side of the film.
