Killer Santa Slasher helmed by genre legend David Hess features No snow, light gore, night scenes shot during the day, mediocre kills, and beef stew mentioned far too many times. This won’t win any awards, but everything I just rattled off is totally part of its charm—To All a Good Night feels like some distant relative of Pieces or something along that vein and actually features numerous slasher hallmarks we’d see over the next decade. I watch this every few years and always have a fun time is def... non essential as far as Slasher films go, but I think it’s worth checking out, especially if you’re trying to branch out your holiday horror viewing to something other than the usual few movies or the gazillion mother krampus movies out there.
I kinda love the nonsense soundtrack a lot so it gets an extra half star just for that!
I know I’ve been MIA for a damn minute, but one of the risks you take in the nursing profession is running into icky germs and unfortunately there was an outbreak of norovirus at the facility at which I work and I caught the fuck out of it. If you’re not familiar, let me tell you that norovirus is THE FUCKING DEVIL and I have literally been throwing up since Sunday (today is Thursday). Thankfully it’s finally stopped, but only to be replaced by explosive diarrhea because norovirus is THE FUCKING DEVIL. Anyway, I think I’m finally towards the end of the battle, but that dear friends is why I’ve been absent and I tell you this because it is…
A no-frills little slasher directed by none other than Mr David Hess. This movie is actually Christmas themed, but because it is set in sunny California, it doesn't feel very Christmassy. Luckily the killer dresses up like Santa. What makes To All a Goodnight enjoyable is that most of it takes place in this large sorority house and that it is populated with a lot of quirky characters. My watch partner (Adrian) observed that the movie would be pretty boring if the characters weren't so fun, and he's right. Most of your enjoyment will definitely come from them and the strange dialogue.
Pretty okay kills. Not as sleazy as I had hoped.
Listen, I came for a fun holiday slasher and what I got was just that. No blatant morality lesson. Just some good, dumb fun.
A killer Santa is stalking a group of girls at a finishing school during Christmas break. This was so awfully enjoyable. It’s not quite Pieces level bananas but, at times, it comes pretty close! The kills are ridiculous but also so,show awesome. The music is hysterical. The acting is beautifully tragic. It’s stupid but it’s never boring. It reminded me of both Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part 2 even though the latter hadn’t even been made when this was released. Still, there’s a crazy character in this named Ralph so.....
As a kid,…
An 80s Christmas themed slasher directed by David Hess it's gotta be great right? Well it depends on who you ask. If you ask me it's pretty dang terrific! Yes it's a clumsy mess by conventional standards but If you enjoy those off kilter low budget cheesy anomalies like myself then buckle up tight! You're in for a great night!
First five minutes and a bunch of rowdy college gals are running around yelling "SORORITY!" To make sure we know they are in a sorority...All of a sudden one them topples over the balcony and lands SPLAT ON THE CONCRETE! she's dead! Oh shit guys! Enough with the horseplay! And now several years later there's a crazed Santa killer on…
My first Christmas movie of the year! What better way to start the festive season off than with a killer Santa slasher helmed by the legend that is David Hess? Set at night but clearly, multiple scenes were shot during the day, with zero snow, sub-standard kills, light gore, and not enough boobage makes this a lot less fun than I hoped it would be. That said the sorority girls are a likable enough bunch that makes it worth sticking out to the end even if the "twist" is rather predictable. I'd recommend checking out if you have already exhausted all the usual holiday horror flicks - you could do a lot worse than this.
A tedious and almost unbearable early 80’s slasher, primarily because of the atrocious acting, though the variety of kills are what keep it from being a total disaster. As soon as I find one from this era that I like, i.e. Death Valley (1982), there’s bound to be at least three or four others that suck, and this is one of those. Indistinguishable characters getting picked off one by one either pre or post coitus in a reform school setting. Riveting stuff. Another film that benefits from being set at Christmas (with an axe wielding Santa), because without that, I doubt anyone would give it a second thought.
I love early 80s horror so much. Even when it's trash it has this beautiful grimey film look to it. And honestly, an 80s Christmas slasher directed by David Hess had me a little too excited, as a large portion of this is just dragging and meandering nothingness. Also I hate to mention things like sound in a review, as it feels more like I'm grading student films, but the sound mixing is distractingly terrible in this. Just room noise that occasionally dips in and out.
But when it's awesome this is pretty awesome. The ending is a convolutedly brilliant layer of reveals.
Also there is a scene when a couple is having sex. Both naked but covering each other.…
A decent c-tier 80s holiday slasher that features aspects of Black Christmas with a touch of Silent Night Deadly Night.
Directed by David Hess, Krug from Last House on the Left, this film follows a group of finishing school girls who sneak their boyfriends to their house during the Christmas Break holiday. But a killer Santa lurks in the shadows and takes them out one by one. Someone must pay for the opening scene tragedy, essentially a dummy falling off a balcony.
Nowhere near the level of the aforementioned Black Christmas but it might surprise some with a few decent kills, a capable final girl in Jennifer Runyon, and a really great location with lots of day for night shots. Have some spiked egg nog and turn on for some holiday viewing.
I kinda love the soundtrack. A formulaic slasher with a lot of sex, a lot of foolish behavior, and a twist that I approved of politically speaking. I did spend 15 minutes talking with Kathleen about Zac Efron in the middle of it, but that's on us, not the film.
Man these characters were absolutely annoying! I wanted all of them to get killed. The killer is mostly obvious. The pacing had me tuned out a little. But, it's an 80s Xmas slasher directed by David Hess of all people and there are some cruel moments to it, some of the kills were decent.
