🩸 DIVINE PUNISHMENT! 🩸
Having seen and loved Yoshihiro Nishimura’s short film Anatomia Extinction, the less graphic and slightly gory—still masterly—predecessor to Tokyo Gore Police, I knew I was in for some bloody mayhem and what a cataclysmic monstrosity this was!
Set in futuristic Tokyo, self mutilation is now common amongst civilization; it’s bad vs worse, it’s human mutant hybrid engineers vs the scummy privatized Tokyo Police Corporation. Bazooka holding, samurai sword-wielding babe Ruka, seeks her bloody vengeance for her fathers assassination, all the while tracking down the mad scientist Key Man who turned Tokyo into a creature-filled wonderland, she shows no mercy to those who get in her way— touch Ruka and she’ll slice your arms right off!

GoreGasmic Cinema of Epic Proportions! You ain't in Kansas any more Dorothy you have landed in the wickedly divine, demented and deranged monsterpiece directed by the master of GoreGasm Yoshihiro Nishimura!
I GuaranFreakingTee you.. you have NEVER seen anything quite like this! When it comes to Body Horror Cronenberg's got nothing over Yoshihiro Nishimura! Mutated penises and vaginas (And other misc body parts) become weapons of mass destruction! I dunno about you but that beats serial killers with machetes any day of the week.. twice on Sunday!
There's bat shit insanity and then there is Tokyo Gore Police. This is sick and twisted creativity at its best. Everything is so over-the-top however that you can't help but laugh at it. Yoshihiro Nishimura sure knows how to make them.
Less of a feature film and more of an exercise in visual effects and practical makeup. From what I read doing some research on the film, Nishimura is often put on the same level as Tom Savini for his incredible special makeup work, and watching this film is no mystery as to why. The creatures and the imaginative staging is wonderful and will surely stay imprinted in your mind for years to come. Much of the work here reminded me of Tetsuo.
The problem is that unlike that movie, this film is never as entertaining or wildly as funny. In fact, the characters in the movie are just cringe-worthy, and the chaos is almost unbearable. While there are some great…
A little Verhoeven, a little Cronenberg, a little Miike, and a whole lot of goop. This thing is basically an excuse for Yoshihiro Nishimura to go ham on the goopy practical effects, and it warms my heart every time I watch it. It's just a shower of blood, body parts, and creative set piece moments.
I'm sure there's a plot in here somewhere, and there might even be some underlying theme or something, seeing as how there appears to be an attempt at some Verhoevenesque satire. But I don't know who would notice such things when your movie opens with a head explosion, followed by a woman rocket jumping to get into a chainsaw fight with a dude who's swinging a chainsaw around on a chain, attached to his arm.
If you love gore like I do, this thing slays.

"Divine punishment"
only watched this for Eihi Shiina my beloved (and she looked so stunning dismembering all those men with her katana 😍), but anyway, i ended up so surprised, this was actually so hilarious and fun 🩸 (i saw things i didn't think i'd ever imagine seeing), the gore was over the top nonsense and i loved it!! it all was so silly in the best way possible.
the futuristic dystopia world of crime and deprivation serves as a comment on the abuse of power within the police system, on HaraKiri, capitalism, revenge, etc. there's even a "wrist cutting with style" advertisement!? now that's CAMP.
Holy shit! This is one wild, fucked up ride. The brightly coloured title sequence, full of flowers and kids playing, briefly lulled me into a false sense of serenity and in now way was I prepared for the absolute carnage that was about to follow.
This is a dark and highly gruesome revenge story set in a near future where the Tokyo Police Force has been privatised, we follow Ruka (Eihi Shiina), a self harming, sword wielding star in the force, she dresses like she's heading out to a 18-30's school reunion party but she's committed to avenging her fathers death and hunting down Engineers, criminals who have evolved into the ultimate killers and can transform a gaping wound into…
When it's been a number of years since you last watched Tokyo Gore Police It's easy to forget just how batshit crazy it is. Then you come to the scene where the dude gets his dick bitten off and returns as a mutant complete with cock cannon! Honestly, there is probably something deeply wrong with me that I get such enjoyment out of the bloody carnage and mutilation that this film serves up.
Ruka is a hunter for the Tokyo Police Corp - who look like they're some sort of Samurai Space Cops who just got off the death star! Ruka kicks ass, slaying the engineers with her sharper than sharp sword in a bloody brutal fashion making that beautiful…
Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.
Gory, stupid, over the top, violent.
But also, super political.
You know the idea of a private police force is something you hear bandied about every once in a while. Making the criminal justice system leads to corruption. As seen when the Tokyo Private Police Force keep like fucking on the people they capture.
But also, you know our lady heroine Katana slashing fucker.
Katana?
It's Japanese for sword.
Well, it's a type of Japanese sword as there are also No Dachi, Wakizashi, Tsurugi, ext.
I don't want to give the ending away, but boy howdy does it have something to say about the privatization of the criminal defense system and the…

A hilariously grotesque bloodbath of flesh, vengeance, and satire.
I can easily say that I would have never seen this unforgettable Japanese splatter gore flick, if my Podcasting partner Joey Porter had not challenged me with it for our podcast. Viewer discretion is advised from this point forward, because Tokyo Gore Police (TGP) is seriously twisted, and you can hear our full discussion about it by clicking the link at the start of this review.
(So here's what can you expect to see in TGP) Spoilers ....
- The movie has some seriously bad special effects, which actually works in its favor to…
