Standard documentary filmmaking, but Herren's story is so fascinating, tragic, yet hopeful! It's a great story about how detrimental drug use is, and I'd just highly recommend it in general. Really inspiring stuff!
Chris Herren Jr drove the movie. Loved it. Thank you @ my teacher for making me watch this in class instead of writing our proposals
Addiction is horrible and Chris Herren is one of the few who went through it. Yet, even being very lucky, he had his own bottom. Props to his wife for sticking with him through it all. A competent and inspiring doc.
Another very good documentary from ESPN, this one taking a look at the career of Chris Herren, a Massacusettes player who was at the top of his high school and eventually got a scholarship to Boston College but it was around this time that he started experimenting with drugs. After leading Boston College he was given a second chance at Fresno State where he shined but once again drugs became an issue. After a stint with the Boston Celtics the drugs became too much and Herren found himself not working and near death.
UNGUARDED is another very good film from ESPN and it's probably going to be their most meaningful to many people. There's no question that the message here…
The great part about ESPN's 30 for 30 series is that you don't need to be a fan of sports to appreciate them. This is especially true for the Basketball documentaries for some reason, as I found myself enjoying Survive and Advance, <Celtics/Lakers: The Best of Enemies and Winning Time the most out of the whole bunch (among others, of course).
Unguarded is another great one on that list showing the absolute destruction that drug addiction is capable of, no matter how much promise a person may have early in life. Anyone who loves documentaries will probably become as obsessed with 30 for 30 as I am, as this marks my 80th documentary in the series.
Another strong ESPN documentary this time looking at former NBA star Chris Herren. The film looks at how his addiction to drugs spiralled out of control, and how he now tries to pass on his experiences to others to try and prevent them doing the same.
Some of this documentary is ectremely moving however, for me what prevented it from being a truly great film was that I couldn't connect or sympothise with him. I didn't feel sorry for him and I don't think it focused on the effect it had on his family enough. Had it done this I may have connected more with it.

Okay I thought everything was just average it gets its point across, but this is like a textbook sports documentary.
It's an interesting documentary of a man who played basketball and was on drugs at the same time
