My mind exploded watching this movie.
My heart is still pounding.
My body is still shivering.
I saw Whiplash almost 24 hours ago.
i had a dream that j.k. simmons yelled at me and i woke up crying
Damien Chezelle's tale of a boy, his drums, and a teacher that speaks ever so loudly, and carries the biggest stick of badass this side of the Academy Awards, in one of the most heart pounding cardiac arrest breathtaking intense movies I've ever seen. The opening beat. The opening shot. The first time J.K. Simmons speaks. Groovy funky jazzy music makes all movies better. RIFIFI is the shit. Carter Burke? I knew Miles Teller was going to be special after watching Footloose. If you play the drums long enough, you might start sweating like a pig. Could you imagine J.K. Simmons at band camp? Hot ladies that tell jokes are the best. Alarm clocks can be the motherfucker. Milk the…
past me only gave this 4 1/2 stars i'm about to throw a goddamn cymbal at her head
Before my parents married, my father was studying to be a concert pianist at the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto; the upper echelon of musical academies up here in the Great White North. Before that, while still at home in New Brunswick, he would spend his weekends playing in a swing dance band; This is where he met my mum. He spent his weekday evenings practicing at home.
My grandfather, a colonel in the Canadian army, advocated his 7 children play instruments; violin or piano strongly encouraged. A well rounded individual required musical training. A proper career, in his view, consisted of military, medicine, or theology tracts. My Uncles Paul, Emery, and Ernie became Medical Doctors. My Aunt…
A perfect film! Phantom Thread for music nerds!
My friend Celia said “and this is what we call a power bottom” during Andrew’s final scene and it was very funny but she didn’t write it in her diary entry because this was her first viewing and she’s in post-Whiplash shock! Everybody please comment below with “Nice one, Celia!”
One of the greatest denouements in cinema history.
I only wish the final fifteen minutes were stretched out to sixty.
DAMN, it's been a while since I've seen a movie this good. It's been 10min now since the movie ended and my leg is still shaking full of rithm.
Fortsatt fem stjerner!
In all its unimaginable exaggeration this the BEST expression I’ve seen of facing the darkest and most intense forces of passionate pursuit, maybe to some incredibly questionable ethical realms of human drive, but the force that JK Simmon’s character represents is a two-fold demon of tradition without consideration for our limitations and the most grotesque push back against what makes a person truly, unchallengingly great. The kind of thing that writes your name in history books, or cements what you might consider a purpose in life.
But god damn if it doesn’t pull you out of that rut. It’s like a musical thriller—the chasing antagonist conquered by the discovery of unwavering self-assurance, a chasm with depth only noticeable if contrasted with the pitch-black floors of the undiscovered and inhospitable oceans of the world.
. #Whiplash was one of the best movies ive ever seen.. WOW! The preformance from both miles teller and JK Simmons is superb. Every scene was impactful and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. I recommend everyone to see this. I rate this my first 10/10 of 2020!
Whiplash, directed by Damien Chazelle (First Man, La La Land), is a 2014 drama starring Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons. The picture ultimately won Simmons Best Supporting Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards, as well as wins for achievements in Film Editing and Sound Mixing. Following a young jazz musician (Teller), Whiplash borrows Machiavellian idealism in its tale of pushed limits and hopeful aspirations. Amongst a number of accolades and reviews much more articulate than my own, Whiplash is my favorite movie of all time. Never before had I seen such a mindful understanding of the artist’s plight than in this film. Anyone who grapples with the weight of potential and chasing dreams can find themselves in these characters. Teller’s…
