There are 6 main defense techniques in boxing: Footwork, blocking, parrying, rolling, slipping, and countering. All of these require closely watching your opponent, in order to accurately determine the best defense strategy. Opponent throwing crosses to your temples? Throw in a shoulder roll and back it up with that counter jab. Are they coming at you with a flurry of punches, mixing head and body shots of varying intensity, backing you into the ropes? Hunker down, let them burn out, pivot around, and explode with a counter to the ribs. Trying to smash your balls with a hammer? Hit them in the face with a television.
