i know we're living in an alternate universe because owen wilson was in this and he never said "wow" at least once
Jacob Tremblay gave a better performance than the current oscar front runner (Gary Oldman) but still no nomination... how come Chief Willoughby?
Wonder” is as manipulative as movies get, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes a story needs to steer you; sometimes a story tells you what to feel, but redeems itself by virtue of the sincerity with which it shows why you should feel that way. In much the same way that fables and fairy tales exist to making a particular point, subtlety would be counterintuitive to the very nature of what this film is trying to do. And really, no one should be expecting Chekhov from an inspirational tear-jerker about a deformed little kid whose parents are played by Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson.
As generous as it is linear (and only emotionally pornographic towards the end), “Wonder” may be manipulative, but it’s also instructive. It’s a how-to guide for kindness — a good lesson for kids, and a helpful reminder for adults. It’s not like the world couldn’t use one.
i’ve seen enough movies to know how many people it takes to produce one so i have to wonder why no one did anything to stop the “jacob tremblay has a braided rattail” subplot
is wonder probably the most emotionally manipulative film of 2017? for sure. did i still cry? you fuckin betcha
if the entirety of hollywood set on fire, jacob tremblay would be the only one i'd save
about halfway through the movie we’d already seen title-cards about the boy, the friend, the sister, the sister’s friend, and I started to wonder if we were gonna get a whole segment about the family’s dog.
This is a sweet movie tho. Really poor pacing and some cheesy child actors all spouting laughably bad dialogue, but it’ll make your grandma cry.

Have you ever just watched a film and felt this sense of joy that feels like a rarity today? Only so many films can give me the emotions that Wonder manages to give, and only so many films can make me cry in the theater. Wonder was the second time in 2017 that I got this emotional in the theater. The first time was Logan. It was a strange year because I rarely get all that emotional during movies. There is something about bringing everyone together in the way this film does that I absolutely love. Wonder delivers a message that people (straight-up) need today. I have a feeling those who need to hear it…
