It's stupid how many times I thought something was wrong when the sound stopped for the narrator to speak.
I went swimming in a pool with literally one fucking leaf in it and yet my first thought was still 'god this is just like that one scene in y tu mamá también' help me
Devastating. I found myself tearing up when they finally reach the ocean. The movie captures that magical feeling you get when it feels like the whole world stopped spinning just for you. That feeling, when you have it, provides such relief. But it ends, of course, and the film pushes you back into reality in a way that is so deft and honest. It ends with everything piling up at once and leaves you paying the bill, still grappling with the feelings you never asked for in the first place.

Sex; it’s sticky, it’s embarrassing and – even in these enlightened days of liberalism and pornography at the click of a button – it’s treated like some sort of shameful taboo by a large chunk of society. There are people out there who think sex is dirty and nasty and inherently bad. You know the type of people I mean; bible-belt housewives, religious zealots and angry old men who are so sexually deprived that they simply hate the idea…
so, the two teenagers have a manifesto. the woman has a manifesto. everyone has a manifesto. let's see about this film's manifesto.
Rule 1: there are two boys and a woman. boys love girls. girls love boys. boys love boys. don't worry about it.
Rule 2: the country side is hot and expansive and your car is so small and limited. you stare out the glass and try to understand. don't think too hard.
Rule 3: don't ask the woman you've tricked into coming along on a road-trip to a beach you've made up too many questions. you don't want to know.
Rule 4: there are also things even your best friend doesn't need to know. bury your resentment of…
love that the title is essentially a “your mom” joke. i’m brave for watching this wiTH my mom...
The most horniest movie you can watch. Captures lust perfectly but still has a profound message of morality and life. Loved the setting. I enjoyed taking a look at Mexican landscape and Mexican culture. A must watch for sure.
Really sad and honest.
Cuarón seems to think a lot about the experience of being a comfortable middle-class man floating through life while horrible things happen around you. Whether it’s Julio and Tenoch blithely stumbling into some pussy as they drive through the militarized Mexican countryside, or Clive Owen grimacing on a train moving through a fortress England, or Harry Potter getting more popular at Hogwarts even though the dementors are after his ass now.
Do I love this movie? Claro que sí güey, ¡no mames! Me sentía que quería llorar en la escena final.
Jesus, what a beautiful, hilarious, honest, genuine, and gutting movie.
I just finished and am I’m trying to find the words how I feel to describe this. Great performances all around from Maribel Verdu, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Diego Luna.
The subtle hints that led to that reveal at the end are so well done and I’m just trying to take it in. Alfonso Cuaron’s direction in this and just getting the absolutely most from everybody Is so evident.
I am also a huge fan of how this was show. No close ups really and you were able to see how everyone is reacting to the situation around them. It just has that authentic feel of being in the room with the characters, a fly on the wall.
This is an classic for me, what a damn movie!
