Two great lead performances, and a wealth of amazing supporting performances make this a top contender of the year. The direction is confident in the simple story that is being told, and thankfully focuses mostly on the experience of the characters rather than plot.

The film does go a little generic in the third act, though mercifully does not heap on additional conflict, and is just dealing with what has already been established earlier in the film. I would have preferred staying in the AA house.

I appreciated the dual focus on both deafness and addiction, which made the film relatable in a very sincere way.
