Baz’s review published on Letterboxd:
So many compelling elements to this, but the deepest and most moving one that struck me on this rewatch was the love a little girl had for her father, and how that love slowly diminishes and is replaced by fear and resentment as the film unfolds.
Scorsese’s talent for balancing these themes alongside everything else that’s going on is a level of craftwork seldom seem by his peers and contemporaries. Hence why he is the greatest living American filmmaker still working.
