Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm ★★★★

Follow-up film to the 2006 comedy centering on the real-life adventures of a fictional Kazakh television journalist named Borat. This time Borat is joined by his estranged daughter for whom he is offering as a bribe for Vice President Michael Pence. Sacha Baron Cohen brings back his greatest creation for another round of edgy political satire while holding a mirror up to conservative America. The timing for this follow up could not be better as it has been allowed to grow and hopefully influence the nation’s voters. With Borat you expect shock humour and your body to lock in place as you cringe through every awkward confrontation and this sequel does not disappoint. Every issue in this political landscape is covered: planned parenthood to the Clinton conspiracy theorists. Nobody escapes scot-free. Sacha Cohen proves yet again he is one of, if not the great comedic actor of our times. Never breaking character no matter the situation and being able to bounce off non-actors for full comedic effect. Maria Bakalova as Borat’s daughter Tutar gives an absolute fearless performance worthy to stand amongst many of Cohen’s characters the highlight being the interview with Rudy Giuliani. A true star in the making. Overall, even though Jason Woliner takes the reigns from Larry Charles, Borat has not lost any of his edge nor his ability to confront hypocrisy at its greatest. Let’s just hope that it has the impact it intends to have.
