Great Scott! Basil and Bruce Ranked

The Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce started off at 20th Century-Fox as Victorian period pieces and migrated to Universal as contemporary detective stories, the modern dress presumably being a result of the reduced budgets. Although the Universal films are B-movies of around an hour's length, they maintained a surprisingly high standard considering their constrained production circumstances, and there are no duds among them.

The main reason for their quality being, of course, the presence of Rathbone and Bruce - for my money, the quintessential incarnations of the Fabulous Baker Steet Boys.
