Encounters ★★★½

Grainy, old school Colombian film is like Jodorowsky + Hitchcock + Wiene. I realllllyyyyyy dig the uber-stylized look and feel of this. A brutally honest criticism of Colombia through clever, biting filmmaking. It only ends right when it's getting good. It's building and building, but ends before it actually says anything about how to solve this or what to do to save Colombia. I was hoping it would keep going...

This is the first film I've seen this year that I feel like will be a Criterion Collection release sometime soon. Deserves it.
