Single location/pseudo-single location films are always risky to execute. And after learning that this was based off a play, it definitely puts things into perspective, because this film sure felt like a play. And I'm not a big fan of those, I won't lie. But, honestly? It flew by! Good production design, solid writing, great directing, very thematically engaging, et cetera. But let's talk about the real gem here, which is the acting.
Boy, was this full of great performances! The whole cast was fantastic, but obviously the special shoutouts have to go to the two leads. Viola embraces her role and becomes her character with such confidence and style. And Chadwick knocks it out of the park with one of the best and most vibrant performances of the year. It's very, very unfortunate that we lost such a talented man, but I have no doubts that he will (and DESERVES to) win the Oscar.
Super charming film, worth checking out if it sounds like your thing.
