    I've wanted to watch this one for awhile and finally got around to it. Yes, it's another Dracula adaptation, featuring more elements from the book. Both at least use the Stoker novel as a base though. I've always been disappointed that more versions of Frankenstein don't use the Shelley novel, since I think that's better.

    Definitely a strong debut. This was a certainly a risk and I'm glad it managed to get traction. Quite honestly, living in this era and place would be scary enough, and the supernatural element is welcomed. The family's deterioration I thought was well presented. It was also interesting to see the whole subtext of "boy is menaced by witch" made pretty obvious. I look forward to watching The Lighthouse.

    Directors: There are other good horror movies than The Shining, just reminding you.
    But seriously, Defoe was great. Wasn't sure what Pattinson was doing all the time but he was fine. As with The Witch, the best part is probably the unique setting and research. It did sort of feel like a retro horror piece as well. Definitely a piece where there's many different interpretations to be had, and I liked that.
