    Climax

    ★★★

Sure, sometimes there’s like one person in a group of drug people that’s vibing kinda off. So here’s what it’s like if that was everyone.

  • Thir13en Ghosts

    Thir13en Ghosts

    ★★★

In the first 5 minutes, someone says the name of the movie twice and also “who are you to play god?”.

    How can you not?

  • The Suicide Squad

    The Suicide Squad

    ★★★

    Gloriously stupid.
DC finally made an entertaining movie and pulled their head out their asses.

  • The Wind

    The Wind

    ★★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

American prairie homesteading always terrified me, so adding a spooky demon haunting sold me. While it sure felt like a similar premise to The Witch, there was enough to be it’s own thing. It was spooky and tense and beautifully shot.
The part that loses me is the demonic haunting. Are they manifestations of human sin or are they just like a dracula monster guy w different rules that can kick the shit out of you?
The real terror of satanic demon stuff to me is that it manifests by the hand of another person. An abstraction of wrongdoing, and not as a vaping chupacabra.

  • Cradle 2 the Grave

    Cradle 2 the Grave

    ★★★

DMX tried to steal some diamonds but ended up stealing... my heart.

  • I Care a Lot

    I Care a Lot

    ★★★

This makes me about as uneasy as Nightcrawler, except for the bumpy plot around criminality depicting the mafia. It just seemed like the writer googled “how do u do crimes?” and then winged it, adding a neckerchief on a crime boss. I mean, I dunno I didn’t go to crime college or nuthin but that seemed more off-putting than elder abuse.

  • Tenet

    Tenet

    ★★★

Aww hell, I really don’t know. AT ALL.

It feels like Nolan audited some quantum physics classes to make this movie, but then lost his notes and shot from the hip.
Theoretical physics echo in Tenet like his last movie Interstellar. It’s just done in a way where I’m constantly giving it a side-eye and thinking “now wait just a goddamn minute here...”
There’s definitely a lot to unpack in this tangled plot and I’m too dumb to do it.

There were some wild vfx shots though.

  • Flight of the Navigator

    Flight of the Navigator

    ★★★

The costumes and set design were great but then you get an alien Paul Reubens and I was instantly won over. The movie just keeps giving and giving.
To top it off, you get to yell “NASA would never do it that way, this is totally inaccurate!!” at the tv.

  • Trolls World Tour

    Trolls World Tour

    ★★★

    Weirdly a visual feast.
It’s a total fever dream of fuzzy trolls, lisa frank vibes stuffed into a Holy Mountain hallucination.
Incredible animation, details and pretty fun.

  • Avengers: Infinity War

    Avengers: Infinity War

    ★★★

The Russos did a pretty good job of wrangling all these storylines together. I mostly watched to catch up to last years memes, and was not disappointed.

  • The Accountant

    The Accountant

    ★★★

Was an interesting premise for sure. A savant-like autistic accountant cooking books for all manner of high profile deplorables, with a sinister violent back story. That was the trailer at least.
The movie itself was awkwardly paced and felt disjointed with way too many subplots and unnecessary character development.  It felt like 3 directors were making their own movies only to cut it back together at some point later. I still have no idea what happened, but there were some freakin sweet action scenes pew pew pew
