it's a decent action flick that would probably be a lot more emotionally engaging if i had any kind of childhood connection to western pop culture, but what i really want to know is whether anyone involved in creating this movie realised that it's the best fictional argument for communism i've seen in some time. like..... yes corporations are bad and the proletariat should unite to tear them apart? there are some points that spielberg seems to have accidentally made?
all that aside, i'm incredibly sick of the myth of the lonely yet benevolent nerd genius overlord (even if this one is played by mark rylance). the words rooney mara spoke in the social network still ring true today: "you are probably going to be a very successful computer person. but you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. and i want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. it'll be because you're an asshole."
