loved the farewell so i came back to lulus first feature and found some compositional similarities but not much else. where "the farewell" has characters and motivations that feel like they could easily belong to real people (obviously, cus they do), dialogue in "posthumous" feels overtly plot-serving or to show us "what kind" of person each character is. wang knows how to use editing to make particularly romantic/climactic moments feel immersive and close, but it doesn't quite make up for the fact that this film generally feels predictable. berlin, nonetheless, is a beautiful and interesting backdrop for this international-american directorial debut.
