I'm a lifelong rock climber and mountaineer, and a filmmaker. I wanted to love this movie. The footage of the 4-hour climb itself (and the prep climbs leading up to it) has its own internal tension and narrative. That's the real story. I wish we saw more of it in the film.
Instead, we have 90% of the movie filled with human interest, slice-of-life stuff. I'd like to see maybe 1/3 of the amount of that, and balance the rest…
