Rewatching for Hayao Miyazaki’s 80th birthday. This movie works as a perfect reminder of the childhood my friends and I are now leaving behind. How great it felt to set off in the world and look for purpose. My third Kirsten Dunst movie in a week proves to be another fantastic testament to her charisma and humanity.
Watching this on the morning of 1/1/2021 was perfect. Oldman has grown the perfect face to play a swollen, aging alcoholic. I felt deeply connected to that as we all slump forward one day at a time through this pandemic/presidency/apocalypse.
The biggest takeaway for me was that Seyfried is overdue for an Oscar nom. She cannot help but devour the scenery.
