georgie’s review published on Letterboxd:
i first watched IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE six years ago, in my first ever film class, and i had just turned 18. i think i was in a very different place back then, mentally and emotionally, so this rewatch felt like such a new experience. the first half was so exciting for me to watch. the main things i remembered were maggie cheung’s qipaos, obviously, and all those little scenes where she and tony leung walk past each other on the stairs. and i really felt the yearning of it all on a much deeper level this time.
the second half kind of dragged though, and i kept waiting for it to go somewhere even though i’ve seen this film before. so it’s not perfect in my eyes, but it is extremely good. very painful to watch during a pandemic!
