I don't know how to describe the animation apart from a sketch that they brought to life and as that's pretty much the definition of animation I think they did pretty well. I wasn't a fan of the extra layer of animation on some scenes, but the film used it effectively.
Olivia Coleman's villain voice is amazing.
The characters were well written and complex so I felt all the right emotions in the right places.
