Jessica James’s review published on Letterboxd:
Choppy and, like Batman vs Superman, needlessly grim, Suicide Squad doesn't redeem the DC Cinematic Universe. On paper, the idea of throwing together some of DC's more unusual villains in a Dirty Dozen-type scenario had promise: refresh the typical focus on Batman and Superman, and bring some of the levity Marvel achieved with Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.
The final result: not so great. Suicide Squad has its moments, but is laden with exposition, throwaway characters, and the sense that the film was repeatedly butchered en route to its theatrical cut. At this point, it's difficult to see how, short of a stylistic makeover, the next DC films aren't going to be as tedious.
