The Favourite is perfect until the final moments, which are painfully post-modern and negate what came before. If Lanthimos kept going and gave us an ending that was more scathing than its preceding build-up, we'd have a masterpiece on our hands. Instead, he doesn't stick to his guns, probably because he didn't know how to end it. It's hard to feel any sympathy for those that rule us when they make decisions that may send us to our deaths at any given moment. Lanthimos deludes himself, and the audience, by letting this notion slip his mind in the finale. Still, a good movie and worth seeing.
