Army of the Dead

what the fuck is this??? obviously expected a downgrade from ZSJL, but not by this much. honestly more confused than disappointed, everything here feels perfectly placed just to get you to say "wow! I've never seen that in a zombie film before." the political nods in this (militarization, abortion, "belligerence is the first sign of infection") are just thrown in for the sake of checking shit off a list and whatever's left behind plays out like a video game trailer—delivered via consecutive scenes that mean nothing and aren't funny, in proper netflix fashion. it's just baffling how every character in this doesn't even amount to a parody of themselves and the setpieces are tailored to recuperate attention from anybody who didn't put this on just to fuck 30 minutes in. nothing with bautista and his daughter feels earned I'm sorry but I can't just give this nigga credit for attaching familial themes to whatever narrative... 😭 and why was the helicopter lesbian just shoved aside in her own little corner even tho she's the best character? left to chew the scenery for no reason... there's just no focal point from which this is meant to take off and everything is a pretext for some of the worst action snyder has ever shot. i'm not even gonna talk about how ugly this is but wow! he's obviously stretched himself thin by taking charge of this entire project and i've never liked his work outside of the dceu but this is a new low, especially with those last 10 minutes.
