it's very kafkaesque
Love it when these movies I watch out of necessity since they're leaving the Criterion Channel soon turn out to be good, but it's something else when they turn out to be this wonderful.
Local Hero is a movie of such subtle charms that it's breezy qualities wash over only to be truly appreciated when the film is all but over. Nobody told me this was hilarious! Seriously funny, the uniquely Scottish brand of highbrow humor is full of gags…
ROAD TO "NO MORE HEROES 3" - Film #1
Can't wait to revisit this a few more times, hopefully after reading some of the countless think pieces and analyses written over the course of this movie's storied history. All rightfully deserved, there is simply so much to unpack here.
All I can say for sure now is that I ate up the cyberpunk x body-horror hybrid aesthetic and that the storyboard for this must've been INSANE. It's a glorious masterstroke that has earned its phenomena status tenfold.
Funny how in an It's A Wonderful Life style turn of events, everytime I wanna just give up; Charlie Kaufman comes along and blesses me with a new movie.
In his latest assault on the senses, Kaufman adapts (for the first time in his directoral features) a novel in a way *so* cinematic that it's hard to believe this story has been told in any other medium. This movie is paced like a heart attack. Jess(i)e, both Buckley and Plemmons…
AN UTTERLY AMAZING FILM.
A true work of magic. By far the best family film of the year and an absolute delight, in the purest form.
It's a 2 hour movie, and I'd be willing to watch it a million more times.
Reminded me that I'm a kid. That I'm young at heart and always will be. Movie magic.
P.S. For anyone who has a heart, see it twice. I fell in love with movies again.
