So I concluded the Phase II rewatch with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Not much to say. Still awesome. I did appreciate Ronan a bit more this time around; if you think of him as a Grimdark villain stuck in a lighthearted space opera it lends him (and his grandiose lines) a bit of humor.
I also think the movie gains something from being watched so soon after THE AVENGERS. In some ways they are the non-elitist Avengers, made up of torture victims, failed experiments, and rejects rather than billionaires, gods, and super soldier Adonises. I think that's why Groot sacrificing himself earns the pathos Stark's sacrifice in THE AVENGERS lacks.
