This was a brilliant horror movie with a fantastic performance from Charles Laughton that is simultaneously chilling and sympathetic.

The film itself is an interesting look at the time period. It shows the tenuousness of law and thecruling class, and illustrates just how quickly a controlled populace can turn into an angry mob.
