So Spider-Man returned to the embittered worker vs. the noble billionaire narrative AGAIN? OK then.
This is why I am less high on the MCU take on Spidey than some. It’s weird turning Marvel’s consummate underdog into a billionaire’s heir.
I mean, I didn’t dislike it exactly. It is funny, Gyllenhaal is weird, Holland is good and Zendya is great. And the fights do some mildly creative things with Mysterio’s powers and the fight sequences.
But it is too long and there isn’t much to latch onto here. And this idea that the MCU is the best take on Spider-Man is weird. Being an underdog is too important to the character, and the MCU is definitely not an underdog franchise.
