The Irishman

The Irishman ★★★★

I finally got round to it. It felt different to your typical Scorcese which caught me off guard in the end.

It ultimately shows that a life of crime leads to either an early death or a miserable fading out of existence. There just wasn't quite the same exuberance or energy that I expected, unless you count Al Pacino shouting cocksucker over and over and over. The distinct lack of glamour and the aching regret (especially in that last hour) were incredibly compelling.

Joe Pesci gives the best performance in a film full of impressive turns (sit down Al). Also Jesse Plemmons and the fish in the car.
