The Haunting of Bly Manor

The Haunting of Bly Manor ★★★★

I was very excited to watch this next installment in Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting, and it did not disappoint! It’s very different to The Haunting of Hill House, which is the best horror tv show i’ve ever seen. But different doesn’t mean bad!

This is more of a gothic romance rather than straight up horror. It’s a bit slow and also quite mature as well! I really like the characters and how complex and well written they are. Throughout the episodes we understand their actions and decisions. I also really enjoyed all the metaphorical meanings the show brings thematically. They are “haunted” by their past, and I really liked how they portray trauma, broken relationships and loss in a realistic way. I think the actors brings all this home, the acting is phenomenal! It also looks absolutely stunning! I was very impressed by the cinematography, every episode literally looks like a well shot movie!

The Haunting of Bly Manor goes into what love means, how complex it can be and what it feels like loose someone. I feel like it does it incredibly well! It does all this while also bringing some great horror! I wouldn’t say I found any sequence to be particularly scary, it was more eerie and creepy. If you like slower and more atmospheric horror you’ll probably like it! I won’t spoil anything of course, but I also liked that they left a bit up to our own interpretation.

I watched it during a 5-day span, which definitely wasn’t Ideal. I feel like I would like it more If I watched it in one or two days.
