Southland Tales ★★★★½

Watched on MUBI

Still in awe of this behemoth and am struggling to wrap my head around it. It feels like it scooped out my stomach and just left me with this void. I understood a lot of what it was going for, but still wrecked me emotionally. Loved all the ideas around time, identity, surveillance, media, etc. Will need to rewatch to bask fully in its glory, but it’s funny how each decade brings us a masterpiece satire of Hollywood and society, in general, that gets largely unrecognised:
1990s - The Player
2000s - Southland Tales
2010s - Under the Silver Lake
