This is slowly and sneakily becoming one of my favorites. It will never quite take out Chainsaw or Salem but at this point it's rivaling them.
The portents of doom, the love for Universal monster mashes, the baroque aesthetic. The Funhouse has got it all. I know people really seem to despise the pacing of the movie, but I love the first half of the film. The people we're following are jerks, sure, but who doesn't want to be at a carnival? And all the while we're given nuggets of foreshadowing that I can't help but get giddy over.
After this rewatch, I think I've figured out why I'm drawn to Gunther so much. With his obnoxious wailing and incel-y type behavior, he's basically Belial with legs.
