I really wanted to give this movie a chance; it has really whimsical moody vibes at the start that make me wanna enjoy it but it just lost my patience halfway through and makes me have to say this is a solid 3-star film.

To say “every frame is a painting” is incorrect. A more accurate analogy would be to say that it’s more like the whole film is the painting, and you’re just walking into it, exploring all its crevices and rich life that only film can display.

I love how this movie invents this disorienting fantasy world to make adult audiences feel like a child does in the adult world. I love how characters aren’t good or evil, they just have their own agendas. Evil isn’t something people are, it’s something people do. Chihiro believes in the good of everyone and that’s what saves her in the end.
