I have waited to see this movie for a while now, and I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen today. It felt good to be back at the movie theaters after not being in one since March. After watching this movie for the first time, it was amazing. This is a movie that is worth seeing on the big screen. Possessor is a total mindfuck of a movie that actually works. I even like this movie over Brandon Cronenberg's first movie "Antiviral" (2012) in my opinion. The movie has scenes that are soaked in neon-drenched colors and I'm a huge sucker for those types of colors.
The neon-drenched colors actually work for the movie's story and Brandon Cronenberg was able to use them without giving you a headache. You get plenty of dark surreal imagery that feels like a visual dream in someone else's mind. There's plenty of gory violent moments that will please the fans of blood and gore (including myself). While the story may not be 100% original, it's still pretty well told and you do need to pay attention to some scenes in the movie to understand some details in the story. That will probably be a turn off for most people, but I like movies that make me think. The story does remind me of a mix of Trancers (1984), eXistenZ (1999), The Cell (2000), and Looper (2012) in my opinion. There's a lot of cool twists and turns that I don't want to spoil. Please see this movie without reading any spoilers because the movie is better if you don't.
Overall, Possessor is a fantastic movie and I do recommend checking it out. Rating: 9/10
