Hooptober 8: The List-maker made me do it
6 Countries: South Korea & 3 Asian horror films

The Host gets itself going very quickly and doesn't really slow down in some ways. Have to say that a first viewing of this now in 2021 with the masks and the vaccines and all of that is...something. Some really interesting ideas bubbling around in this monster flick that refuses to comply with the typical monster film tropes, and it really works well for it.

Another excellent film from Director Bong!

    2021 Catch up challenge, Week 39 - 1986

Kyle and Laura are everything in this. I didn't entirely get 100% of it on a first watch and occasionally felt self-indulgent but there's a ton to admire and like.

I'd been wanting to see this for a while, I've had an interest in the world of modern day pirating for a while and I remember reading the story of Captain Phillips before I knew it would be a film.

I was very impressed by this. It's about two hours but keeps you enthralled all the way through and you don't notice how long you've been watching.

The performances are outstanding and for me it is one of Hanks' best.…

Keeping it short but sweet because there's so many good reviews of this.

It's exactly what I want from an action film. Shot with a lot of colour and some interesting slow-mo that's very dream-like. I'll admit to not having read the comics, but I just thought this was slick.
