Squid Game

Squid Game ★★★★★

Unbelievable show. So many things about this to like. Well deserved of becoming the most watched show on Netflix. Some very soft spoilers ahead.

The plot first of all. This went in so many directions I didn't expect it to, the twists were always keeping me on the edge of my set. Pretty much every episode I was on the edge of my seat. Even the controversial twist, I kind of like because I feel it justifies the madness of the whole concept of the show.

Don't even get me started on the production design. Some of the best I've ever seen. Cinematography to go with it. Brilliant. Some may say there's over acting in this, but I think it just adds to the charm of the show, it really works for me and made me love the characters even more. They're all so memorable. And I bloody love Seong Gi-Hun's reactions to winning stuff in the first episode. Gives me a good old chuckle. Love my boy Ali. And The Old Man as we knew him. But in all seriousness, the acting here is bloody stunning in my humble opion.

But what I really love about this is the messages, emotions, and ideas this explores. The simultaneous display of the best and worst of humanity, the exploration of wealth, of philosophy. And most importantly. This made made me laugh, and it made me cry. It's been a long time since I've watched a piece of media where I've felt so emotionally attached to the plot. This will live out in my head for a long time, and I'd happily rewatch, I could rewatch it the day after finishing it and still be just as enthusiastic. It might not always be the number one perfectly constructed miniseries. But I don't think any piece of media really is. And that's okay. I like how it's listed on Letterboxd, because it really does feel like one big contained filmic story. Everyone involved should be immensely proud of themselves. Ending gave me some mad Inception type vibes but with a twist.

One could also say that a measure of a film's brilliance is its memeable qualities. And this has plenty of that too. -Smiles like Seong Gi-Hun does at the camera and goes to the hairdresser to dye my hair bright fluro red-

I really hope they don't make a sequel.
