honestly my go to comfort film, idk why? kinda reminds me of my childhood in a way but not entirely, i love how it’s told through the male gaze and how each sisters “girliness” shown in public is just a cover of how dark each of their lives are in different ways. the only time we see the sisters as themselves is when they are isolated as one together, showing the true discomfort they feel inside. i think this film is genius to be quite honest, it focused a lot on how the boys saw them as a tease and a mystery that they didn’t even realise how they were planning a mass suicide. women are constantly objectified, and sofia coppola’s way of showing this was harsh but strong and real.
