A Face in the Crowd

A Face in the Crowd ★★★★★

"Big things have small beginnings," says Lawrence of Arabia, but so do, sometimes, terrible things. In "A Face in the Crowd," we watch Lonesome Rhodes' all too believable journey from Arkansas drunk tank to populist demagogue. Many have justly declared Kazan's film a prophetic masterwork—to the point that Trump's famous line, "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and wouldn’t lose any voters" is pretty much here.
