Thunderball ★★★

There's so much to love in Connery's fourth outing as Bond but sadly the pacing is incredibly unforgiving. The gadgets don't seem completely implausible, the locations are gorgeous, the score is excellent, the one-liners aren't groan-worthy and the underwater sequences look ace. Sadly, this time around, and without the context of a complete franchise rewatch, Thunderball lost some of its lustre.

Nowhere near my favourite of the Connery era (that would be From Russia with Love), Thunderball is still a rip roaring ride of thrills, spills and chills. This movie blew my tiny mind as a child but didn't even hold up comparatively since the last time I watched it, 6 years ago.
