even though i adore this movie so much, i understand why people think the jaden smith storyline is unnecessary. but it kinda clicked for me this time - camille still didn’t feel like she was completely accepted in the skate kitchen because of her lack of ~experience~. coming-of-age movies too often put so much value on finding a boyfriend/girlfriend; how having sex is an essential rite of passage - so of course camille felt like she had to find someone. but she realises that friendship is more important than love or sex. the happy ending isn’t when she kisses the boy, it’s the simple joy of being with the people she holds close.
