Storyteller. Film lover. Pixar shill.
I’ve been told I rate things too generously but...I guess I just love film? Sue me.
“Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.”
There’s no film that quite sums up what I love about film, storytelling, and life in general like The Empire Strikes Back does. It’s no revelation that this film is a masterclass of storytelling, world-building, and overall entertainment. There’s just nothing quite as magical. I always have and always will adore every moment of this masterpiece of cinema. It might have a reputation beyond what any film deserves but that is just…
I couldn’t even finish it but I got to like an hour twenty so we’ll count that.
This movie isn’t ALL bad. The concept itself is pretty solid, the cast is great, and the execution is almost good (also Margot Robbie kills it). But a solid first fifteen minutes quickly become the most uninteresting and bland thing ever, which really really sucks.
That said, there’s a point to be made for the fact that these characters, gross and irresponsible supervillains, almost perfectly capture the essence of a very specific group of kids at my public high school. So there’s that.
