  • Wonder Woman 1984

    Wonder Woman 1984

    ★★★

You might want to have some crackers ready for the incredibly cheesy ending.
Wiig was perfectly cast and Gadot is gorgeous, but is that enough?

  • Yellow Rose

    Yellow Rose

    ★★★

The music is great, but the rest falls flat. Which when you’re trying to sing a tune is not very good at all.

  • Sylvie's Love

    Sylvie's Love

    ★★★½

Tessa is captivating, as usual, but there is nothing remarkable about this movie. It was a nice family friendly watch with my folks.

  • Ammonite

    Ammonite

    ★★★★

Two of the greatest working actresses saying so much when they aren’t speaking a word.
And that sex scene... Saoirse is all grown up now.

  • I Hate New York

    I Hate New York

    ★★★★½

    The Stuff of Legends.

  • House of Hummingbird

    House of Hummingbird

    ★★★★

Did this need to be quite so long? It is full of brilliant moments, but could have been spectacular with a little more editing.

  • The Twentieth Century

    The Twentieth Century

    ★★★½

The art direction, costumes, hair and make up are out of this world wonderful. It’s was quite bizarre but difficult to follow what was actually happening.

  • Da 5 Bloods

    Da 5 Bloods

    ★★★★½

I was not expecting to like this quite so much. It was constantly surprising in form and content. Plus I feel like I learned a shit-ton without realizing I was learning anything.
Definitely my favorite Spike Lee joint.
Delroy Lindo was crazy good, but kinda confused why Boseman’s performance has been so talked about. I thought Clarke Peters had a much more compelling supporting turn.

  • Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

    Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

    ★★★★

Boseman’s energy vibrates through the screen and Davis demands to be seen. Two gorgeous performances that deserve our attention. Not sure how well this play translates to the screen, but still very well done.

  • Butt Boy

    Butt Boy

    ★★★½

We can learn a lot from the little boy who said a prayer of gratitude from inside the rectum of a middle aged man before literally eating shit. That kid understands the meaning of life much more than I ever will. This gets an extra star for the most beautifully disgusting ending to film, ever. What joyfully perverse humor! I never miss a film recommendation from John Waters.

  • Possessor

    Possessor

    ★★½

I fully had to close my eyes on 3 separate occasions because it was so fucking violent. Which ruined everything that was good about it for me.
    And a twist? Hardly.

  • The Wolf of Snow Hollow

    The Wolf of Snow Hollow

    ★★★★

Jim Cummings may have given us the greatest eye-roll ever captured on film, twice. My funny bone was definitely tickled.
