I’m saying goodbye.”

Sofia Coppola has always known what the fuck she’s doing. She knew what she was doing whenever she wrote this movie, she knew what she was doing when she decided the soundtrack. And by God, she knew exactly what she was doing whenever she directed the fuck out of this.

And on paper, this movie sounds like it would be a royal mess. A period piece about “The Bad Queen” herself with an alt-rock soundtrack? But, by luck, you add Sofia Coppola’s name to it, and out comes one of the most brutally honest, funny, and surprisingly relatable films I’ve ever seen. It’s been exactly one year since my first viewing of this, but now I can confidently say this is Sofia Coppola’s best film, and one of the best films ever made.
