Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 2: Judgment Day ★★★★½

"Your foster parents are dead."

I wish I could send a Terminator back in time to punch Edward Furlong in his smug fucking face.

It's a testament to James Cameron's filmmaking abilities that he can have a main actor be so outright terrible in a movie is this good. Imagine what a young Christian Bale (or almost any other breathing actor) could have done with this role. But no, we get Edward. Fucking. Furlong. Ugh.

Other than that, though, the movie is pretty damn perfect (except for the diversion to Mexico, which nearly grinds the movie to a halt). Schwarzenegger is great, and Hamilton so completely transforms her character from the original, it's like watching a different actress. Really impressive work. Robert Patrick isn't quite as good a villain as Arnold was in the original, but he possesses the appropriate menace required for the part. Adam Greenberg absolutely knocks it out of the park in the cinematography department.

Terminator 2 isn't quite as good as the original (though most of the action sequences easily dwarf the ones in The Terminator), but it belongs in the pantheon of great sequels.
